Learning Challenge: Empathy as the Key to Social and Emotional Learning

I read the article Empathy: The Key to Social and Emotional Learning by Katrina Schwartz. The article talks about how there is a strong integration between a person's social and emotional skills and learning. As a result, they applied these findings to a school. I think it was interesting that they were able to teach kids empathy because it is a a skill that people often neglect to grow and cherish until they get older. Another interesting tidbit is that when taught to be empathetic, children often behave less aggressively. This finding makes sense because when kids are taught empathy, they are able to view the situation outside of themselves with more understanding. As a result, they are less likely to become angry and be calmer in situations that are more emotionally difficult. I support the implementation of "empathy teachings" in schools because I think empathy is a skill we should support and build early on so kids understand that there is more in the world besides their problems and make them more well-rounded people. I'm curious to explore if there are more empathy experiments/studies in the field of psychology and how we can bring them into the mainstream.
