Introduction: About Me!

Hi, my name is Kim Pham and I'm a senior this semester! My major is Psychology Pre-PA and I hope to go to PA school in the future. I'm from Oklahoma City, but I currently live in an apartment with 3 of my friends Anna, Lorraine, and Marina. We've been living at the Edge for the past 3 years and even though there are some things that need to be fixed in the apartment, it's been super fun living with my friends.
In my free time, I like to read, watch movies and TV shows with my boyfriend and roommates, and listen to music. I'm constantly making new playlists on Spotify and finding new artists to listen to. Recently, I've been loving "Con Altura" by Rosalia. I'd definitely recommend her music if you haven't listened to it already! I also love fashion and experimenting with different colors, patterns, and accessories with my outfits. As a result, my room always has clothes thrown on the chair near my bed and my closet is overflowing with clothes. I'm not a big artist and writer, so fashion is a good outlet for me to express my creativity. I also try to work out 4-5 days a week, which is a healthy habit I'm trying to build in college.

For my long-term goals, I hope I can attend PA school and become a PA. I want to become a PA because I want to hopefully work in a clinic, treat patients, and teach them about the relationship between physical and mental health. I would like to work in general practice for a few years, then maybe work in a mental health setting to gain a better understanding of the reciprocal relationship between mental and physical health. I would also like to eventually work or volunteer in a clinic that offers health services in communities that normally don't have access to regular health services. Public health is a subject that I want to learn more about so I can help alleviate this problem in the future.

  1. Hi Kim! I love finding new music too, although I use Apple Music instead of Spotify, which I've learned (from past experiences with friends) can be a source of conflict. It's interesting that you want to focus on the relationship between physical and metal health, as I have many friends who are majoring in psychology and that doesn't seem to be an area they typically focus on. I absolutely agree though that there is a relationship between the two, and I'll have to remember to bring that up with them next time we discuss it. Good luck with this semester and finishing out your undergrad!

  2. Thanks for the music recommendation, Kim! Getting to share Indian music with people is one of my favorite things about this class (and blogs are a great way to share music, with links, even embedded videos, playlists)... my favorite group is Maati Baani; here they are doing a fun collaboration with Vidya Vox: Summer Love ... it's an LA/Mumbai mash-up! And I hope all the storytelling in this class will be an asset in your public health career: finding a way to connect with people can happen through stories. One of the great treasures that arose from the Ocean of Milk in the cosmic Indian creation story is Dhanvantari: the god of medicine in Hinduism!

  3. Omg Kim!! I didn't realise that you were taking this class too until I saw your comment on my blog! :) I had to check out your blog (which is gorgeous and aesthetic by the way!! You have a knack for knowing your style) to make sure it was you. I'm so excited for this semester and can't wait to read your posts! You're gonna make a great PA!

  4. Hi Kim! I love your interest in the relationship between physical and mental health. I've always been super curious about that relationship and have noticed there's a significant incline in my mental health when I'm taking better care of my physical health. I also love fashion, but I think I prefer admiring other people's creation than my own. I always come up with outfit ideas in my head, then never commit to wearing them. It does always result in my room looking like a tornado went through it though hahah

  5. Hey Kim,

I love your taste in music as well as your interest in fashion and medicine! I especially like your reason for becoming a PA. A lot of people nowadays are uninformed about mental health, and the connects it has with physical health; a lot of people seem to write off that physical health is the only real thing to care about, but I really support your idea of connecting the two (as they should be) for your patients when you are a PA! I also am quite jealous of your ability to work out 4-5 days a week as I am trying to get in the habit of that too :)

  6. Hi Kim!

I have to say, the world NEEDS people like you! My interest in public health sparked last semester and girl, I am running with it. I love how much it opens my eyes into the health field. I really feel like it is a necessity to anyone who is interested in doing something with health. I declared a minor last semester and I am having so much fun in my classes. I am also in this club on campus called AMWHO. If you haven't heard of it, it is sort of like model UN but with world health. This year we actually debated about breaking the stigma on mental health (it was so much fun). If you are interested in learning more about public health that club is the best way to start!

  7. Hey Kim, hope all is well. I have a good friend who just graduated Psychology and loved it; I’m guessing you’ve gotten some interesting studies in. Big props on Rosalia, she actually did a song with one of the artists I mentioned in my post and absolutely killed it. Spotify is pretty awesome for exploring new music, definitely support the music deep diving, keep it up!

  8. Hey Kim, I like the taste in music! I think that it's great you're so into fashion too. I am quite the opposite as I can never dress decently even if I put in the effort. I definitely respect the determination to go to the gym 4-5 times a week! It is a very healthy habit and I believe you have the power to keep it up!

  9. Hi Kim!

Thank you for the music recommendation I will be sure to listen to them after I finish with my homework for the night! I was also Pre-PA with my sights on going into the OU program a couple of years ago before I changed paths. Fall 2018 I was introduced to Public Health which I took a liking too straight away and changed my major to it almost immediately. Before I made this decision however I had to decide if I wanted to be the . one diagnosing patients with diseases or studying disease. Now my professional goal is to be an Epidemiologist!

  10. Hey Kim!
Awesome that you're psych pre-PA. My dad is actually a psychiatric PA, he's a partner in a practice down in Tampa and as stressful as his job can be he definitely enjoys it! Love your passion for helping others and there is so much you'll be able to do with that. You may even want to check doctors without borders, beautiful program and my dad did it and enjoyed it thoroughly, giving back in places where they have so little. Good luck getting into PA school!

  11. Hi, Kim!!
I actually started out at OU as a Business, Pre-PA major! Honestly, I wish that I would have stuck with it, because I have such a love and interest in the health/medical field, BUT, biochemistry and organic chemistry and not classes that my brain can process. I think that your goals are absolutely attainable! Good luck to you!! You're going to kill it, I have no doubt!

  12. Hi Kim!
Congratulations on making it to your senior year! I have always thought psychology is super interesting subject matter, and I think some psychological concepts can actually help you analyze characters and their motives from a different perspective when reading stories which is so cool!
That is awesome you are planning on going to PA school, and I am sure you are going to impact so many lives. Good luck!

  13. Hi Kim!
Being a senior is awesome right? We've made it the four years, and I know I'm ready to be done. I'll have to take a listen to Rosalia, as I have never heard her music before. I wish I could develop the habit of working out more - I know it's a good habit, but it is always hard to find the time. I'm glad you have found a system that works for you!

  14. Hi Kim! Man you're already on your senior year? I have one more semester in front of me, but I'm already classified as one. I really like your choice of psychology, it's something I've definitely thought about choosing that as my major as the whole concept of the human psyche and behavior sounds oh so interesting! I also would like to wish you good luck on your pre-PA path as it sounds like a good one to take, especially in the medical field; I'm pre-med myself. Hope to see your blog again soon!

  15. Hey Kim! I am also a senior this semester! My roommate is currently a psychology major as well and I have been living with 2 of my 4 roommates for 3 years now too. Like you, I also try to workout 5 times a week and I think that its a really good habit not just physically but mentally as well. Good luck the rest of this semester!

  16. Hello Kim,
You have a really awesome goal and it sounds like you would really enjoy helping those who need medical care but have trouble getting it. I want to be a doctor and also help people so I know it's a long path. I wish you the best of luck in your career and I hope you do well in it.

  17. Hi Kim! It is nice to meet you! I loved how you talked about living with your friends for the past 3 years! I personally have lived with my sister, which was nice, but I do wish I took some years to live with my friends. I feel like good roommates have an even greater friendship because their bond is so tight. Hopefully in the future you guys will still be living together after graduation!

  18. Hey Kim nice to meet you! I also live with 3 roommates who are also my friends and it's been so fun. I lived with 2 of them last year and we are also living together next year. College really is the place where you meet your people. If you ever write a bibliography for extra credit, please write about your love for fashion!! I would definitely read it because I love clothes too. Actually, today Nasty Gal was having a huge sale (50% off of everything) so if you read this in time, go check it out!

  19. Hi Kim!
PA is such a cool career. I was considering applying to PA school for a while. What I loved about it was the flexibility. You can do any specialty you want! I found that part really appealing. Fashion is so awesome! I have limited fashion sense haha. I love online "shopping." I put cute stuff in my cart....but then I never order it and keep wearing t-shirts haha! I wish you the best, awesome intro.
